The SJ30-2 completed a nonstop flight from Jacksonville to San Diego in approximately four hours and seven minutes, setting an unofficial east-to-west transcontinental speed record for its aircraft class.

CEDAR CITY, Utah — SyberJet Aircraft has announced that its SJ30-2 has set an unofficial east-to-west transcontinental speed record for light jets, completing a nonstop flight across the United States at an average speed of 505.3 mph.
The aircraft flew from Jacksonville, Florida, to San Diego, California, in approximately four hours and seven minutes, according to SyberJet.
The flight surpassed the existing record of 339.4 mph set by an Embraer Phenom 300 in 2013. Official certification by the National Aeronautic Association (NAA) and Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI) remains pending and is expected to take approximately 90 days.
While the record remains unofficial, the flight highlights the performance increasingly achievable within the light jet category, where speed and range can have a direct impact on the journeys available to private jet travellers.
A Four-Hour Transcontinental Flight
The record attempt was flown by pilot Gordon “Gordy” Bryan, with SyberJet CEO Trevor Milton aboard the aircraft.
Unlike an eastbound transcontinental flight, westbound journeys across the United States can face prevailing headwinds, making fuel management and aircraft range particularly important.
The SJ30-2 nevertheless completed the Jacksonville-to-San Diego journey without a fuel stop.
SyberJet reported an average speed of 505.3 mph, compared with the previous class record of 339.4 mph. If certified, the result would establish a new east-to-west transcontinental speed record in the C-1.f aircraft class.
The SJ30 has long been positioned around high-speed, long-range performance for a light jet. The aircraft is capable of operating at altitudes of up to 49,000 feet and is designed to combine light-jet dimensions with performance more commonly associated with larger aircraft.
What the Flight Means for Private Jet Travellers
For charter customers, aircraft speed records may appear primarily technical, but the capabilities behind them can have practical implications.
Light jets are typically associated with regional and shorter-distance private flights. Greater range can expand the number of routes that can potentially be operated nonstop, while higher cruise speeds can reduce flight times on longer sectors.
Avoiding a fuel stop can be particularly valuable. In addition to the time required to land and refuel, an intermediate stop interrupts the journey and reduces one of private aviation's key advantages: travelling as directly as operational conditions allow.
The SJ30 also places emphasis on cabin pressurisation. Its cabin is designed to maintain a sea-level cabin altitude up to 41,000 feet, a feature intended to support passenger comfort during longer flights.
These characteristics illustrate how aircraft selection involves more than simply choosing between a light, midsize or heavy jet. Range, cruise speed, cabin dimensions, baggage capacity, passenger requirements and airport performance can all influence which aircraft is most appropriate for a particular journey.
Performance Comes With Cabin Trade-Offs
The SJ30's performance does not mean it offers the same passenger experience as a larger private jet.
Its cabin measures approximately 12.5 feet in length, 4.7 feet in width and 4.3 feet in height. For travellers prioritising speed and efficiency with a smaller passenger group, those dimensions may suit the mission.
Passengers looking for greater cabin height, additional baggage capacity, multiple cabin zones or more room to move during longer flights may instead prefer a midsize, super-midsize or heavy jet.
The distinction is important for charter customers because two aircraft capable of completing the same route can offer considerably different onboard experiences.
Aircraft performance therefore represents one part of the charter decision, alongside passenger numbers, luggage, cabin preferences, airport access, route requirements and aircraft availability.
SyberJet Prepares for the SJ36
The record flight also comes as SyberJet prepares for the next generation of the SJ30 platform.
The manufacturer is developing the SJ36, a new variant based on the SJ30 airframe. SyberJet plans to debut the aircraft at SyberJet World in Las Vegas alongside NBAA-BACE 2026.
The record-setting SJ30-2 is also scheduled to appear at NBAA-BACE's Aircraft Connection at Henderson Executive Airport.
The existing SJ30 remains relatively uncommon, meaning the record should not be interpreted as indicating widespread charter availability of the aircraft itself.
Instead, the flight provides an example of how manufacturers are continuing to push the boundaries of the light jet category.
For private jet travellers, those developments could ultimately mean greater choice between aircraft categories as improvements in range, speed, efficiency and cabin technology expand the types of missions smaller business jets can perform.
The SJ30 record remains unofficial pending certification from the NAA and FAI. Aircraft availability and performance for individual charter flights depend on factors including operator, route, passenger load, weather and operating conditions.
